At That Busy Intersection ?
Traffic Congestion This is the most universal complaint everyone has with putting any Big Box store at that location. South Milwaukee is divided by railroad tracks. From the northern half of our city, College Ave. is one of the only routes west towards I-94 or I-794. Chicago Ave is one of the few routes north and it only has two lanes. It is already one of the most congested intersections in the city. The Walmart would add 5,000+ cars a day plus an additional stoplight. Can you imagine the aggravation? Obviously, every nearby road will congest as drivers try to avoid that intersection. see map
Lousy Location According to a survey of 30 other surrounding Walmart stores, this location would be the only one
to be located on a two lane road!! Residents and businesses will lose parking on N. Chicago. It's obviously a poor location for a 100,000 sq. ft. Big Box store. Walmart talks about the "2 Mile Market Radius" but they have a store barely 4 miles west, an airport in the middle and the lake 1/2 mile east. Are they expecting shoppers to arrive by boat or plane? Compare this site map to the 27th St site. map They just want to force our local businesses out. Leave us alone!
Traffic Study Flawed It was conducted when people were avoiding College Ave. while it was closed at Pennsylvania Ave. for the airport expansion project last year. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation reported to us that their traffic count showed 10% less than the actual historical counts for every hour of the day!
Additional Stop Light It's hard to get through the one light already. Imagine the misery of a 2nd light a block away.
Truck Traffic Walmart stores require extreme high volume to justify their cheap prices. That means several semi-trucks per day are necessary to re-stock. That neighborhood is not used to the commotion of frequent full sized rigs. Just wait till we see what all the heavy wear and tear to our streets will cost us tax payers. We insist that trucks will constantly be hopping over the curb on the southwest corner of College Ave. and Chicago Ave.

Pedestrian Traffic They didn't even consider the bus stop. What about kids who cross the street for school?
