What About the Other Buyers ?
Other Firms Were Interested In Buying That Land ! That’s right. We have records of other potential buyers that were interested. One industrial company even submitted a proposal to build a plant that could offer real jobs that people can actually make a living at. And another was apparently interested in buying the land As Is to profit from cleaning the land. The problem is the Common Council has had blinders on with this Walmart deal so they actually turned away the firms. They would have a business on that land offering real jobs if they had offered the deal they're giving to Walmart. It's an outrage!
So What If The Land Is Vacant Awhile Longer? It’s not costing the community anything significant. Let’s be patient until the right kind of business comes along that fits nicely within our community.
That Land Could Be Worth a Fortune Someday Soon Why are we rushing to cave in to such a lousy deal with Walmart? We're virtually paying them to take the land! As other communities become piled up with Big Box sprawl and traffic, they will be envious of South Milwaukee and our fewer stop lights. Some day a sensible industrial development we can all be proud of will want that industrial land with the rail road spur. A development that wont aggravate our city for decades to come.
